Although I enjoyed serving others in the hospitality industry, I always felt there was something more for me. When the opportunity to become a REALTOR® came along, I seized it, blending my business acumen with my hospitality skills. What happened next was incredible—my career took off simply by being myself and doing what I love: the gift of serving others.
I was born on Maui and raised by my grandparents. I even spent a brief period studying in the Philippines, which broadened my perspective on the world! After that, I decided to pursue nursing in college on the island of Oahu. Life took an unexpected turn, however, when I became pregnant in college with my daughter, Keyara. I had to face the realities of motherhood while figuring out my own path, and the growing pains were real.
I returned to Maui, feeling lost about how to balance single motherhood with building a career. To make ends meet, I worked full-time at a local restaurant & Five Star restaurant Spago’s by the famous chef, Wolf Gang Puck at the Four Seasons Resort, sold life insurance part-time and attended college. I always felt there was more to life –– that’s when I met Jay, a professional baseball player from the Midwest. At first, I hesitated to let him into my life because I already had so much on my plate. Ultimately, Jay and I fell in love. We started a long-distance relationship, and I eventually moved to Indiana. I was nervous, but the Midwest hospitality felt right, and it felt like home away from home.
In Fishers, I found a job at a dental office. I’m naturally a curious soul and love to learn. In a matter of a short time my skills became evident to the owners. My boss embraced my curiosity, hard work ethics, and eagerness to strive in whatever position he put me in. I gained his trust, and he took me under his wings. After asking many questions and closely observing the daily intricate tasks in hand, I gained a solid understanding of how to run a small business— especially tracking finances and managing the day-to-day operations. However, things got difficult when Keyara’s biological father filed for custody. Three long years of custody battle caused emotional and financial strain that became overwhelming. After five amazing years, I realized my job wasn’t going to provide the financial stability I needed and that I have reached a ceiling in the dentistry industry. I’m forever grateful for the leadership that believed in me and I am still close friends with most of them today.
My husband Jay encouraged me to pursue something I was passionate about. I’d always been interested in real estate, so in 2016, I took a leap of faith and got my REALTOR® license, which Jay was the first to celebrate! I went 110% all-in, determined to learn with an open mind. At first, I wasn’t sure how profitable the job would be, but I promised myself I would give it my all for at least one year. In less than six months, I closed nine transactions and earned Rookie of the Year! I knew then, I’d found my calling!
Coming from Hawaii, I brought the aloha spirit into my work, treating clients with kindness, generosity, and warmth. By implementing the business lessons from the dental office and the customer service skills from the hospitality industry, my real estate career took off! It feels incredible to excel at something simply by being myself and doing what I love, which is helping others. When I’m working, I lose track of time because I’m so passionate about it.
Looking back, I realize how all my past experiences prepared me for this career. What I thought were setbacks turned out to be essential lessons. Many of my clients have become close friends, and the challenges I’ve faced have made me the REALTOR® I am today. Every hardship has strengthened me and fueled my success.
Today, Keyara is 15, and Jay and I have welcomed three more children: Apollo, age 8, Ava-Rae, age 5, and Lucia Capri, age 2. We love hosting gatherings, where I enjoy cooking a huge feast of a variety of diverse foods. Allowing friends and family to come together in fellowship. Our kids are involved in sports like baseball, basketball, wrestling, soccer and competitive cheer. Where we have the privilege to watch them grow in sportsmanship, integrity, respect, accountability, compassion, honesty, humility, persistence, and reliability. So being a busy mommy of 4, peace & quiet is rare for me. To fill my cup of tea, I joined a ladies Eucher club. Where I am surrounded with other amazing mama’s in a competitive Midwest card game of euchre. Its nights filled with laughter and great company. My faith is a big part of my life, and I find grounding in starting each day with reading the Bible. Life can get very fast-paced and future-oriented. Since COVID, I've shifted into a quieter space, slowing down to appreciate the precious things in my life today.
I love empowering my clients by solving their problems. Integrity is at the core of my work, and I’m committed to maintaining professionalism while advocating for my clients in the best possible way. As an empath, I listen closely to my clients' needs and strive to form genuine, heartfelt connections on a personal level.
Listening is one of my strongest skills, allowing clients to fully express their wants and needs. I also serve as a mediator, helping couples communicate their wants when buying a home. I ensure that both parties are heard and aligned on a shared vision. I’m also upfront and honest, setting realistic expectations—especially when it comes to the versatile market, budget, and indifference with specific wish lists. Clarity is essential in ensuring my clients understand the full picture of their commitment. You can expect me to present you with a variety of purchasing options to fit your exact needs.
I specialize in both commercial and residential real estate. I also help investors find profitable properties. If you work with me, you’ll get a REALTOR® who is committed to serving you and meeting you exactly where you are with kindness.
Sincerely,
Michelle Broughton
